Leighton Buzzard Railway

The Leighton Buzzard Railway offers all the old-world charm of a narrow-gauge railway, in what is for many a convenient location, some 40 miles (65km) north of London.

Steep climbs, sharp bends, ambling alongside roads and wandering through housing estates, plus lots of level crossings to hold up the traffic. But this is no toy train set.

The line, just under 3 miles long, was built in 1919, from materials and equipment surplus from the First World War battlefield lines, to carry sand from the local quarries. Now operated by a non-profit volunteer society, it is home to locomotives from all over the world, including some Great War survivors.
