Waddesdon Manor

The impressive French Renaissance-style château of Waddesdon Manor is set in the heart of Buckinghamshire with sweeping landscapes and manicured gardens. The Manor was built in the 1870s for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild to entertain his guests and display his vast collection of art treasures. It houses one of the finest collections of French 18th century decorative arts including pieces made for Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI. There is also a fine collection of British portraiture including paintings by Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough as well as Dutch and Flemish Old Masters.

Set in 5,000 acres of glorious rolling parkland, Waddesdon has one of the finest examples of a late Victorian garden in Britain, featuring an iconic Parterre, famed for its colourful seasonal bedding. Other Victorian focal points in the garden include an ornate Rococo-style Aviary home to rare and endangered birds that were once part of Baron Ferdinand’s collection, the artificial Pulham rock and 3D bird bedding sculptures that are examples of the Rothschild’s pioneering gardening. Also to be enjoyed is one of the most important collections of 17th and 18th century garden statuary in the country as well as contemporary pieces.

Families can explore the gardens with seasonal trails; an exciting woodland playground that winds through the trees; children’s activities and plenty of space to run around and explore.
The Manor possesses an outstanding collection of wines. The cellars and wine shop contain one of the largest collection of Rothschild wines from two of the most famous Bordeaux vineyards, Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild and plays host to wine-tasting events throughout the year.

There are also cafés, restaurants, gift shops and the Coach House Gallery, with annual exhibitions, to enjoy. A full programme of events is organised throughout the year including special interest days, wine tastings and family days.
