Crossing London With BritRail

22 March 2024

Did you know you can cross London using your BritRail Pass?

Since November 2023 BritRail Pass holders can now cross London using National Rail services, making journeys from Heathrow Airport to Kings Cross station available on your Pass.

BritRail Pass holders are not able to use the London Underground on their Pass, only National Rail lines.

There are now three National Rail lines crossing London that BritRail Pass holders may now use to connect through the capital city.

  • Elizabeth Line
    • In November 2023 the Elizabeth Line opened crossing London laterally (East < > West) connecting Heathrow Airport in the West to Stratford in the East
  • Thameslink
    • Thameslink trains run through the centre of London (North < > South) on their way from Bedford to Brighton. They connect Gatwick Airport and Luton Airport to each other through the city centre of London
  • London Overground
    • London Overground services are a handful of local lines that form a circle around London

A very important interchange is Farringdon Station, where the Elizabeth Line and Thameslink connect.

These three lines are National Rail operated trains, therefore your BritRail Pass is valid to be used on them within your usual validity.

Passes available to use across London:

  • BritRail Pass
  • BritRail England Pass
  • BritRail London Plus Pass
